PATONA PARK – Australian Miniature Goats, Nuwby Goats (& Pygmy Goat importer).

My name is Sue Ludwig, creator of the Australian Miniature Goat (Breed Founder), we have a small 10 acre farm located in Boyland, Canungra QLD.

I have been keeping and breeding goats since 1995. I created the Australian miniature goat breed from selectively breeding genetically small feral (field goats), cashmere and angora goats (for size) with predominantly boer crosses (for depth and muscling) to produce well balanced stylish (colourful) conformationally correct genetically small animals that quickly became the “perfect pet”.
I created & developed breed standards for enthusiasts to follow and opened up my breeding records creating the Australian Miniature Goat Registry, providing record keeping and issuing certificates for Breeders wanting pedigrees to follow.

The first Australian Miniature Goat Club was launched in Feb 2000 after I developed and published supporting promotional articles and advertisements for numerous farm and pet magazines available at that time. In 2004, I published “AUSTRALIAN MINIATURE GOAT STUDBOOK – VOLUME 1 (2000-2004)” and an Australian Miniature Goat article for “Grassroots Magazine”.
With lots of encouragement to fellow enthusiasts and needing assistance with the rapidly growing mini goat industry, I organized the set-up of the Australian Miniature Goat Association Inc (2004) and in 2005, I published “AUSTRALIAN MINIATURE GOATS – A Comprehensive Guide to a Unique Little Breed” with details and history of my journey.

In the years that followed, I collected many small goats. We have introduced many enthusiastic Breeders to this new little breed and made many wonderful friends along the way. Andrew & I were blessed with three beautiful children who have grown up with Aussie Minis as beloved pets and safe, trustworthy companions.

We believe that anybody can breed small goats but it takes a truly dedicated Breeder with a good eye for selection to be able to produce truly stunning, conformationally correct, genetically small (not nutritionally challenged), Australian Miniature Goats meeting the Breed Standard of Excellence.
Our goal was to produce perfect Aussie Mini goats with Bucks around 22″-23″ and Does around 20″-21″ that are well balanced and in proportion for their size, with high fertility, easy kidding, great milking ability, hardy and have fabulous temperaments.

We are pleased to say that we have indeed managed to create a little all Australian breed with the animals that we had available to us, that breeds true to type and height and is very comparable to the overseas cousins that it was based on.

Years of hard work and breed promotion including appearances on Burkes Backyard; Totally Wild; Better Homes & Gardens with Dr Harry Cooper ; Breakfast Shows; radio broadcasts and creating copious amounts of educational material have provided a strong foundation for building our little breed. In 2006 our hard work paid-off and we were accepted as exhibitors at our very first show for Australian Miniature Goats.

By the end of 2006 my second book “AUSTRALIAN MINIATURE GOATS – The Principles and Practice of Judging” was published and a good portion of it was further published in “MINIATURE GOAT JUDGE TRAINING WORKBOOK” to support a judge training program I had created.

In 2007 a group of dedicated breeders assisted with the set-up of the Miniature Goat Breeders Association of Australia Inc who we are members and life time supporters of to this day. We are proud to be working with this group of amazing people who have worked hard in their own areas supporting shows that are now held Australia-wide and boast some of the finest animals in the country.

In 2009, Andrew – my beautiful husband and fabulous father to our children, was taken from us in a single vehicle accident not far from home. Animals were billeted out and road-trips across the country assisting other breeders with setting up shows and training seminars, offered us all an escape from the grieving at home. Many of our animals eventually found their way back to us over the years that followed, to the children’s delight.

In 2014 we expanded to include Pygmy genetics and in 2018 we became importers of the breed. Tyla, Jade & Mike adore the animals and I am very proud to say, their lifelong involvement with them has created three beautiful, kind, confident hard working young people who all still participate in the care and enjoyment of owning these beautiful creatures. Both of the girls assist with training programs and seminars around the country and have become avid exhibitors and mini goat marketing gurus. Tyla and I completed an AI course and have been very successful, increasing our herd percentages steadily over the years. In October 2022 we had our very first 100% imported embryo buck born and in December 2023 he has his own offspring being born.
